Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), the subsidiary of Swedish bus and truck major AB Volvo, today launched a full-fledged telematics system in the Indian construction equipment industry for enabling better man-machine communication.
The product, CareTrack telematics system, will help in remote monitoring of machines as well as making available real time information. Volvo CE will provide CareTrack as standard fitting on most of its construction machines starting August 2011, Mrityunjaya Singh, managing director, Volvo India Pvt Ltd said.
The product is presently available in 40 countries and would be launched soon in China and Indonesia. The telematics system will be imported from Volvo’s headquarters in Sweden and fit into construction machines at its Bangalore plant at no extra cost to the customers, he told reporters, here.
Using GPRS/GSM to send information, the technology will enable users to track location of their machines, fuel consumption, speed and hours of operation and the time for next service. The data on machines will be available securely and instantaneously to any remote online connection, he said.
Singh said, “In recent times, the need for real time information is growing faster than ever before and it was imperative for us to invest in a telematics tool that would help our customers in better site management leading to cost savings and timely completion of projects. This technology will help Volvo dealers and machine owners to identify and resolve machine problems faster and proactively.”
CareTrack will be delivered to customers with a no charge, 3-year customer activation.
