Wabco sets up manufacturing facility in Chennai

The plant, spread over 2,272 sq mt, would have 160 employees

Wabco India, an automotive component and services provider, has launched its second manufacturing facility at Mahindra World City here, with an investment of around Rs 50 crore.

The new facility would manufacture technologies and products for commercial vehicle manufacturers in Germany, Japan, Poland and the United States among other international markets. The plant, spread over 2,272 sq mt, would have 160 employees, including 30 engineers, according to a company announcement.

The facility would enable the company to seize market opportunities in Asia and globally, according to Jacques Esculier, chairman and CEO, Wabco.

Leon Liu, president - Asia, Wabco, said, “Wabco's continuous investment in local capabilities demonstrates our deepening commitment to meet the diverse and dynamic needs of customers in India, while continually delivering products and services at world-class standards of quality.”

It has facilities in locations including Chennai, Jamshedpur, and Pant Nagar. It also has a software development centre and a company-owned test track in Chennai. It employs around 1,100 staff and posted around Rs 1,058 crore sales in fiscal 2011-12.
