West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL) expected net revenue to be about Rs 7500 crore and profit of Rs600 crore this fiscal.
It registered a net revenue of Rs6500 crore in 2007-08 with net profit at Rs131 crore.
Speaking at an interactive meet organised by the Merchants' Chamber of Commerce (MCC), WBSEDCL chairman Moloy De said that profit could have been higher by Rs400 crore last fiscal if it had exported the projected amount.
WBSEDCL projected a surplus of 5100 million units banking on additional generation from new power units last fiscal and planned to export this. It exported only 890 million units in reality.
This year, the surplus estimate was 2600 million units.
"It looks like we will have a surplus of around 2000 million units this fiscal", De admitted.
He clarified that the estimates were brought down taking into account shortage of coal supply to power plants.
