Welspun bags Rs 950 cr solar power project from AP

Private power firm Welspun Energy today said it has bagged a contract worth Rs 950 crore from the Andhra Pradesh government to set up a 100 MW solar power plant in Anantpur.

"Welspun Energy signed an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government to set up a 100 MW solar power plant worth Rs 950 crore in Anantpur," the company said in statement.

It said the company had entered into the agreement with the state government in January, this year, and will complete the project by 2013.

The company will construct, operate and maintain the power plant, it said, adding that the firm is acquiring land for the project.

The total installed solar power generation capacity of the firm is around 30 MW in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. It plans to commission additional 250 MW solar power projects in the 2012-13.

"With our fresh commitments we embark on our next phase of developing 250 MW solar power projects in 2012-13. The zeal and commitment displayed by our team will ensure our achievement through excellence in process and execution," Welspun Energy Managing Director and co-founder Vineet Mittal said.

Welspun Energy is part of the $3 billion Welspun group with business in power generation, infrastructure, exploration and production of oil and natural gas, steel pipes and textiles.
