The company's net profit for the full year ended March 2008 is down about 43 per cent year-on-year, while its net sales have grown 28 per cent. Its operating profit rose by 7 per cent to Rs 169 crore.

"The appreciating rupee, spiralling cotton prices and fuel prices affected the company's performance," Joint Managing Director Rajesh Mandawewala said.

Going forward, he expects margins to improve on the back of various measures and the rupee's slide. The home textile company said following the acquisition of Sorema in December, it had added bath rugs and shower curtains to its product portfolio.

The additional bath-rug facility at Vapi, Maharashtra, will start production during October-December, the company said. Welspun India is known for its range of bath, terry towels and robes.
