A part of the Rs 5,000 crore Welspun Group, the company has, of late, bagged high-profile orders including the Rs 500 crore agreement with PGN Indonesia to supply coated line pipes. The pipe supplies for the project - South Sumatr-West Java Gas Pipeline - will take place by July this year. The company also received an order of Rs 301 crore from Stroy Transgas to supply 163 kms of coated onshore pipelines for the Gazoduc Sougueur-Hadjref Ennous project in Algeria.

Akhil Jindal, president of Welspun Gujarat Stahl Rohren, said: "Welspun has established itself as a niche player globally in the high pressure oil and gas segment."  Welspun's pipe business, which since inception in 1995 has manufactured about 4,000 kms of pipe lines, came into prominence when it bagged the Rs 520 crore order to supply 250 km of pipes for the world's deepest-ever offshore pipeline project in the world located in the Gulf of Mexico.

Its other prominent orders include a 400 km of pipeline for Libya's AGIP Oil Company and 220 km pipeline for PEDCO, Iran. With a positive outlook on the industry, the company has undertaken plans to increase its pipe-making capacity at Anjar, Kutch to 1.4 million tonne this year from four lakh tonnes in the beginning of 2005.  Welspun also has taken steps towards backward integration by setting up its own plate-cum-oil mill with a capacity of 1.5 million tonne. The mill will be commissioned by March 2007.
