Wipro appoints Ireena Vittal to its board

Second female board member in company's history

Wipro, India’s third largest IT services company has appointed Ms. Ireena Vittal, a former partner with McKinsey & Co, to its board of directors. Vittal will be the second female board member of the company in its history after Dr Gulbanoo Premji (Azim Premji’s mother) who had been a director at Wipro for almost 17 years till Sep 16, 1983. 
 
Vittal who is also an acclaimed strategic consultant on emerging markets, agriculture and urban development, will serve as an independent director on the company’s board. She was a founding member of the economic development practice and the global emerging markets practice at McKinsey.   
 
“She brings in decades of analytical insights on emerging markets, industry growth models as well as diverse experience in the public and private sectors. I am confident that Wipro will gain from her acumen and experience,” Azim Premji, Chairman, Wipro Limited said in a statement.

Vittal is also an independent director on the Board of Titan Industries and Axis Bank, among others. She has a graduate degree in Electronics and completed her Masters in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.  
 
With Vittal’s appointment, Wipro now has 13 members on its board of which 10 are independent directors.
