Wipro Infrastructure Engineering division, the engineering division of Wipro Ltd, plans to set up a hydraulic cylinder manufacturing facility in Karnataka. The facility is expected to come up in Nelamangala taluk near Bangalore, said highly placed sources in the state government.
According to them, the Bangalore-based company has proposed to establish the manufacturing unit in the Dobbaspet Industrial Area 4th Phase with an investment of around Rs 100 crore. The division, which has eight manufacturing facilities across India, Sweden and Finland, contributes to around $233 million to the revenues of Wipro Ltd.
When contacted by Business Standard for details about the proposed plant and operation, the company in an email response said, “We will not be able to comment on this.”
According to the sources, the company expects to generate job opportunity for around 335 people at the facility. In the government order, based on the assessment by the land audit committee, the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board will allot about 15 acres in the 4th Phase, Dobbaspet Industrial Area, Nelamangala in Bangalore Rural District.
It also said the approval was valid for a period of two years from the date of its issue.
For starting the project, the promoters also need to obtain environmental clearances from various departments. The government has also asked Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd to service 1,800 KVA.
Recently, the company acquired a Brazilian hydraulic cylinder manufacturer RKM Equipamentos Hidraulicos for an undisclosed amount. Wipro Infrastructure Engineering recently also ventured into water treatment systems and solutions to cater to the needs of various industries.
