Infrastructure conglomerate Adani Group on Tuesday announced commissioning of a 50 megawatts (Mw) solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, with an investment of Rs 315 crore, under the National Solar Mission Scheme.

In a first, the plant will use String Inverter Technology with crystalline silicon modules allowing miniature level control of solar power generation. Power generated by the plant will be transmitted through 21.5 kilometre (km) 132 kilovolts (Kv) transmission line connecting with UP Power Transmission Corporation's (UPTCL) Mahoba Substation, under the agreement signed with NTPC.

The project is expected to create direct and indirect employment for around 250 personnel.

"We are moving closer to our aim of revolutionising the renewable energy sector in India. We would like to extend our heartiest gratitude to the UP government officials for their support and playing a huge role in helping us achieve the smooth commissioning of this plant," said Jayant Parimal, chief executive officer (CEO), Renewable Energy Business, Adani Group.

The Mahoba plant adds to Adani Group's growing solar power portfolio that includes a 100 Mw solar power plant in Bhatinda, Punjab, a 40 Mw solar plant at Bitta, Gujarat and the recently unveiled 648 Mw solar power plant in the Ramanathapuram district, Tamil Nadu, which is the world's largest solar power plant at a single location. With this, Adani Group's total solar energy capacity goes up to 838 Mw.

Adani Group stated that by the end of this year it will have over 2 Gw of solar installed capacity, making the company the largest player in India's renewable energy sector in various states. "Till now we have generated 1472 Gw hours of solar energy from above plants, which have reduced CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) emission by 6,50,590 MT (million tonnes)," Adani Group stated in an official communique.
