Wockhardt Hospital and Heart Institute has outlined plans for it to become a digital hospital in an effort to enhance its services offered in the delivery of healthcare.

Said Vishal Bali, VP - Operations, Wockhardt: "Nothing is more important to life than healthcare being delivered with speed, accuracy and continuity. We see IT as an enabler and a source of connectivity to establish new practices in healthcare delivery."

Wockhardt recently won the 'Best IT User Award 2004' constituted by Nasscom. It recognises the excellence in IT usage in the healthcare vertical. It is an acknowledgment of the work organisations have done in deploying breakthrough IT initiatives to deliver higher value to the end-user of their products or services.

Added Bali: "e-ICU, virtual family visit, e-payment gateway, CRM and telemedicine services besides the hospital information systems were found to be initiatives which used IT to provide our patients and their families unique service experience. It is the use of IT for initiatives like the e-ICU where our cardiologists can log and monitor their patients in the ICU from anywhere in the world and that has helped us set a new level of service for patients and their relatives."
