The work on the Regional Solid Waste Treatment Plant has taken off at Bhuasuni on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. It is being developed over 62 acres of land in public-private-partnership (PPP) mode. The solid wastes generated in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) region will be separated in a scientific way to produce bio-fertilisers. While the reusable bio-mass will be recycled and palletised, the unused waste products will be sent to landfill site, housing and urban development minister, Badrinarayan Patra said.

He said, the executive officers have been vested with power for collection, separation and scientific treatment of solid wastes in the Municipal Solid Waste Act 2000. A team consisting of the Commissioners of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and corporators recently visited the ideal waste treatment site in Mumbai. The treatment of the solid waste will be done in a similar manner at Bhuasuni. So there will not be any environmental pollution in the area.
