Work resumes at Colgate plant in Goa

Amicable resolution reached between the striking workers and management

Oral care major Colgate has said that work at its Goa plant has resumed following an amicable resolution between striking workers and the management. 

"The workmen have resumed work effective the first shift of this morning," Colgate said in a statement today.

It may be recalled that workers at the plant had stopped work earlier this month (January 6) and it is only when the Labour Commissioner of Goa stepped in that the matter was finally resolved.

In the last few years, incidences of workmen stopping work has increased across companies. Famous ones include the strike at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant in Haryana last year, stoppage of work by the workers at Arvind Mills in Gujarat, the strike by Hyundai workers at its plant in Haryana and the prolonged strike by workers at Everest Industries in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Currently there is a dispute on between workers and the management at the Hero Group over wages at the latter's Gurgaon plant in Haryana. Workers of Hero have threatened to go on strike if their demands are not met.
