Seeking an immediate revision in wages, about 400-500 workers in the rope dyeing department at Arvind Ltd.'s Naroda plant went on a one day strike on Monday.
"Workers in the first shift of the morning refused to come to work, thereby impacting about 10 per cent of the company's denim production for the day," said Jayesh Shah, director and CFO, Arvind Ltd.
Wage revision negotiations were already on between Textile Labour Association (TLA) and Ahmedabad Textile Mills Association (ATMA) which represents the textile mills in the city.
TLA had also filed a petition in the local labour court about 3-4 months ago. However, workers were dissatisfied with TLA for not expediting the negotiation process, following which they went on strike on Tuesday, demanding wage revision on an immediate basis.
"TLA had assured the workers successful negotiations with ATMA but since last 3-4 months the workers hardly saw any results. Subsequently, the workers took the matter in their own hands and went on strike today," said a source close to the development.
The plant, that mostly looks into denim fabric production, employs about 3,500 workers.

Meanwhile, in its defense, ATMA has been advocating for productivity-linked wages in its reply to TLA's petition in the labour court.
Arvind's denim fabric manufacturing capacity at the plant is of over 110 million metres capacity.
