In what could strain relations between the workers and the management at Hero MotoCorp’s Gurgaon unit, the employees’ union has rejected the firm’s revised offer of a Rs 7,500 wage hike at the factory.

A representative of the union said: “The management is offering us only Rs 1,000 higher than the Rs 6,500 in the wage increase over a three-year period at the Dharuhera plant. It is less than half we have been asking for. We are protesting peacefully and giving them time to reconsider. If they do not relent, we will think of further action.” The workers have been wearing black arm-bands on the premises for over 15 days now.

They have been seeking a hike similar to the recent 50 per cent at Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India’s Manesar unit.

A Hero spokesperson, however, said: “This information is incorrect. We have been holding talks with the union at our Gurgaon plant with the hope of a reasonable and sustainable settlement. It is, therefore, not appropriate to get into specific details with regard to the ongoing talks, until we reach an amicable conclusion.”
