Xerox India Ltd has forayed into pre-owned digital printer and related devices business and has announced a certified economic value (CEV) programme this year.
The company expects the segment to grow at 18 to 20 per cent every year and is targeting Tier II and III markets, said a senior executive said.
The company had started a pilot CEV programme last year to repair, upgrade and sell the used printing equipments of its own brands. With the programme going on full swing from this year, it expects to install around 15-18 pre-owned units in 2011, said Pankaj Kalra, general manager and head graphic communication business.
“We have started refurbishing the old machines, which comes to us in exchange of new products, in our Bangalore facility,” said Kalra. “The facility would be ramped up soon since refurbishment and upgradation of the pre-owned machines require a semi-manufacturing facility.”
The company will buy out used printers within its life time period from existing customers, especially from major cities, and after repair would be sold in untapped cities at around 50-60 per cent lesser price.
