Xiaomi sees future in digital content services; launches Mi Music, Mi Video
Mi Music offers an app-based music streaming service, along with the ability to play offline music files. The Mi Video app now has integrated video streaming capabilities powered by Hungama Play
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi on May 2 announced Mi Music and Mi Video app-based streaming services in India. Both the services are now part of Xiaomi’s existing Android-based apps, which come pre-installed in Xiaomi smartphones. The Mi Music app now offers an integrated music streaming service, along with the existing ability to play offline music files. The Mi Video app, on the other hand, now has integrated video streaming capabilities.
Xiaomi Mi Music service
The Mi Music service now comes with in-built access to Hungama Music, South Asia’s largest digital entertainment content provider with more than 400 content partners across geographies and languages. According to the company’s claim, the Mi Music now offers more than 10 million free tracks across 13 Indic language choices. The music app also features a new dynamic lyrics mode, which offers karaoke experience wherein users can sing the song following the on-screen lyrics. While the audio streaming services via the app over internet is free, user can also download songs using Hungama Pro package within Mi Music at a fee of Rs 899 per annum.
Xiaomi Mi Video
The Mi Video service, on the other hand, is an app designed as a platform for video content aggregation and an offline video player. The Mi Video app currently features content available on Hungama Play, SonyLiv and Voot, with more content providers promised for future. The company claims that the new Mi Video app has more than 500,000 hours of content with nearly 80 per cent free content. The service currently offers more than 12 video formats like AVI, MP4, MOV, MKV, and MKA, MPEG, M2TS among others. It also supports multilingual subtitles, private folders, and multiple audio tracks. The app has also been enabled to support cast on TV feature using DLNA and Miracast technologies.
