Yamaha Motor India, which currently enjoys 5% market share in the two-wheeler segment, intends to scale it up to 15% in two years by introducing various new models.At the launch of Gladiator, a four-stroke, 125 cc bike, here today, N Srikanth, regional business head (sales) Yamaha Motor India, said: "The company intends to sell 1 lakh units of Gladiator this year all over the country. Earlier, our market share was 4.5%. It grew to 5% last year. We intend to capture a sizable share of the market by targeting specific consumer category, like the youth" .Yamaha is aiming for a significant presence in the 125 cc category. "This is the fastest growing category. We expect customers to shift from the 100 cc category to the 125 cc models since our products offer a new biking style," Srikanth said. The Gladiator engine features the latest technologies. The maximum power output is 8 kw and sports a five speed transmission. "The bike is equipped with Yamaha throttle position sensor, delivering a mileage of 67 kilometres per litre on actual city conditions," Srikanth said.The bike is available in two versions. The Gladiator DX, which features an electric self-start and front 240 mm disc brakes, is priced at Rs 44,990. The standard model is priced at Rs 41,990 (ex-showroom, Bangalore), Srikanth said.
