Two-wheeler maker Yamaha Motor India today said its sales jumped 60 per cent to 2.18 lakh units in 2009 compared to the previous year's.
The company had reported sales of 1.36 lakh units in 2008.
However, the sales of motorcycles during the month of December 2009 dipped marginally. The company sold 13,612 units in December 2009 as compared 16,043 in December 2008, it said.
In 2009 it introduced new motorcyles - the 150cc FZ 16 and the Yamaha Fazer in the premium segment and appointed bollywood actor John Abraham as its brand ambassador.
"The year 2009 proved to be another successful year for us, during which we were not only able to make a mark for ourselves, but were also able to achieve several milestones – whether it concerned our sales, rebuilding our brand image or winning the trust of our customers. We are buoyant about future and looking forward to replicate and further improve on our success in 2010 as well" Yamaha Motor India National Business Head Pankaj Dubey said.
Yamaha offers VMAX, MT01, YZF-R1, Fazer, FZ-S, FZ16, YZF-R15, Gladiator SS and RS, G5, Alba and Crux, the release added.
