Hyderabad-based Yeturu Bio-Tech Limited will launch aloe vera range of products in the healthcare and cosmetic segment this November. The products, to be initially launched in Andhra Pradesh, will be made available through a multi-level marketing strategy of direct sale to the customer.

Speaking to Business Standard, M A Virinchi, vice-president, Yeturu Bio-Tech, said, "We will start commercial production of aloe vera products from the first week of November."

The products to be launched include those for skincare, haircare, healthcare and dentalcare.

"We will market products such as flavoured aloe vera juices, tooth gel, face wash and sunscreen lotion." Yeturu's products have been certified by the International Aloe Science Council (IASC) of the US.

Claiming that there is a strong export potential for aloe vera raw material gel, Virinchi said that the company has signed MoUs with firms in the Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia and Venezuela for export of products worth Rs 25 crore, and plans to achieve a total turnover of Rs 50 crore for the current financial year.

The potential for aloe vera products in India is much greater as the plant grows widely in arid and semi-arid zones, he said. Despite the potential, the country's share in the business is a mere 2 per cent.

Yeturu's processing plant, situated at its 250-acre farm on the Shamshabad-Himayat Sagar highway, was set up at a cost of Rs 3 crore and has a production capacity of 16 kilolitres of aloe extract per day.

In the first phase, the company started cultivation of Aloe Vera Barbadensis Miller (characterised by yellow flower) in 250 acres two years ago of which 100 acres is ready for harvest (aloe plant matures in about two years) and the plants in the remaining 150 acres are nine to 15 months old.

Another 250 acres is under plantation, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2005. The company has set a target to cultivate in 1,000 acres by 2007.

Yeturu was incorporated as a public limited company in 2003 with the sole aim of carrying on medicinal plant cultivation, processing and use of its extracts in the manufacture of health and cosmetic care products.
