Tech giant Intel and analytics company EXL were the top recruiters at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on Sunday, the second day of campus hiring at the premier engineering colleges.
Intel made 30 offers featuring core profiles at IIT Kanpur and 29 offers at IIT Kharagpur (IIT-KGP). EXL made the highest number of offers (34) at IIT-KGP, apart from three pre-placement offers (PPOs). Exxon Mobil, GE, and Bajaj Auto were among the other core sector companies that made offers in the first two days of recruitments.
"This year the first two days of final placements have seen offers rise by 10-15 per cent over last year. While the second slot on day two is still going on, the trend has been much better than last year. Also, core sector has had a very heavy impact and hiring in good numbers with either core companies or other sector companies offering core profiles," said Syam Nair, chairman of Students Placement Office, IIT Kanpur. Till Sunday evening, over 310 offers were made by 64 companies at IIT Kanpur.
At IIT KGP, core engineering profiles were made in manufacturing, power research, and automobile, among others. Followed by EXL's highest 34 offers, other prominent recruiters included Qualcomm and Microsoft making 21 offers, Apple (9 offers) and Google, coming back after a two years' gap, handing out five offers, apart from Macquarie Japan and Yahoo Japan. First-time recruiters at IIT KGP comprised Yahoo Japan (1 offer) and BlackRock (7 offers).
Apart from Intel and other companies, Rubrik, Uber, Sprinklr, Graviton, Cohesity, OYO Rooms and first-timer BlackRock made their presence felt at IIT Kanpur. For the first phase of hirings which will go on till December 15, around 275 companies have registered at IIT Kanpur this year as against 220 last year. The institute saw EXL making 16-17 offers, Exxon Mobil nine offers, and GE eight offers. Placement details for day two from other IITs could be ascertained.
IIT KGP too expects offers to rise by 10-15 per cent over last year for the first two days of placements. This is on the back of 180 offers from 25 companies on day one and 104 offers from 15 firms in the first slot on day two, known as 2.1 received by IIT KGP. Last year, the first two days of placements had seen roughly 328 offers being made, which is likely to go up this year.
"With the way things are going on Sunday, we are likely to see better placements compared to last year for the first two days," said G P Raja Sekhar, chairman, career development centre (CDC) at IIT Kharagpur and head - All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC).
Microsoft made the highest number of offers on Saturday, including the top international offers over Rs 15 million (over $215,100 roughly).
