Zee TV has become the first Indian television channel to enter the Chinese market.
The clearance, which came after six years of negotiations, would allow leading Chinese hotels to access Indian programmes broadcast by Zee TV.
For the first time, Indian cultural content including television soap operas will be distributed in Chinese television market, Indian officials here said.
Some of the translated versions of the Indian drama serials are already popular in Chinese channels. The permission would enable Zee TV to focus on this segment.
Zee TV acquired the rights in China after receiving the landing agreement from CTV-STVP, which is the sole agent authorised by China to distribute the foreign landed channels in the country.
As a result, Zee TV Asia Pacific channels except news channels can be seen in star hotels all over China.

This signifies the eventual confirmation of the landing of Zee TV Asia Pacific Channel in China since March 27 this year, the officials said.
Zee China Team is now working with CTV-STVP and the local partners on the branding and distribution of Zee TV Asia Pacific Channel in star hotels all over China, a press release by Zee TV China office said.
The channels offer a variety of programmes for all segments of the audience including prime time comedy, drama series, Bollywood movies, mini-series, children's programmes, game shows, late night shows, and Marathi shows and movies, along with English subtitles, it added.
