Hundred years of Mahatma Gandhi’s return to Indian from South Africa will be the theme of the 13th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) to be held from January 7-9, 2015 in Gujarat state capital Gandhinagar.
Gandhi had returned to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915. The year 2015 marks the centenary of Gandhi’s return to India hence the theme of the PBD will be based on the same, said state finance minister Saurabh Patel.
Patel along with Gujarat minister of state for non-resident Gujaratis (NRG) Pradeepsinh Jadeja today met with union external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi. They were there to attend first advisory committee meeting on upcoming Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2015, to be held in Gandhinagar.
Terming the advisory committee meeting as very successful, Patel said, “The theme of the PBD has been decided to be 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India from South Africa. Mahatma Gandhi returned to homeland from South Africa on January 9, 1915 and hence all the celebrations at PBD 2015 will be focused on the centenary year of Gandhi’s homecoming.”
The event which will be held a few days before the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2015, is expected to be attended by over 4,000-5,000 non-resident Indians, Patel added.
