Amway India on Saturday said there was nothing in the latest allegations that should prevent the courts from granting bail to its chief executive officer and managing director, William S Pinckney, who has been an Indian resident for 16 years and cooperated with all investigative authorities.

Pinckney had been arrested by Kurnool police in Andhra Pradesh on  Monday in a case filed by an advocate accusing  Amway of indulging in unethical practices of money circulation. He had also been taken into custody by another police team from Khammam in a similar case filed in that district.

The local courts in Kurnool and Khammam in Telangana rejected the bail petitions of Pinckney and he was sent to jail.

In both the cases, charges have been filed against Pinckney  under section 420 (cheating) and Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act 1978. Similar cases were pending against Amway in other districts of Andhra Pradesh, including Warangal, Medak, Krishna and Hyderabad.

“The allegations mentioned in all the first information reports (FIRs) are frivolous and give a misleading impression about our business. It is pertinent to note here that content of all the recently filed FIRs is identical to each other and have been filed by advocates or activists,” Amway said.
