Police book three persons in Malegaon under Animal Preservation Act

Trio accused who is still at large may be jailed for five years and fined Rs 10,000

The Malegaon police have registered the first offence for killing cow against three persons under the provisions of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act.

The incident took place in the textile town in Nashik district where the police have seized 150 kg of cow beef from the shop.

Police sources said the offence has been registered against Asif Talathi, Hamid and Rashid. However, they are still absconding and the police team has launched their search.

Police sources confirmed that this is the offence registered since the new law came into effect from March 4. Under the new law anyone found selling beef or possessing it can be jailed for five years and fined Rs 10,000.

In Maharashtra cow slaughter is banned since 1976 while the new law has now banned slaughter of bullocks and bulls.
