Another case of alleged sacrilege of holy book was reported today from a gurudwara in Kadiyana village of Adampur area of the district and two persons, including a Granthi, were arrested in this connection, officials said.
Addressing a joint press conference here this evening, Jalandhar District Magistrate K K Yadav and SSP (Rural) Harmohan Singh said, "an incident of sacrilege of holy book was reported from Kadiyana village of Adampur area, and two persons have been arrested."
One of them have been identified as Granthi (priest of the Gurudwara) Avtar Singh, while the other is Ajit Singh, they said adding that further probe was on.
Yadav said police was going through the call details of their mobile phones to find out the reason of their alleged act and also to acertain if they had any links from abroad.
A case has been registered against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The State had witnessed a number of protests against the alleged desecration of holy books at various place.
According to the SSP, as soon as the reports of alleged sacrilege of holy book spread this afternoon, hundreds of protestors reached the police station, started demonstration and blocked the Jalandhar-Hosiyarpur road there.
Senior police and district officials have rushed to Adampur to pacify the agitators and remove the blockade.
Meanwhile, Yadav denied any incident of beating of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member Paramjit Singh Raipur by the agitators saying some agitators protested against him
Raipur was safely taken away by the police.
