Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has opened admissions for Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme offered at its Institute of Management Studies (Faculty of Management Studies). The applications invited are for admission to the two-year, four-semester postgraduate management courses under the general and International Business (IB) programmes for the academic session 2017-18.
According to an official notification, interested and eligible candidates can download the application from the website, bhu.ac.in. The candidates need to apply through prescribed format latest by December 20, 2016.
The Institute usesCommon Admission Test (CAT) score for shortlisting the candidates for its two-year full-time postgraduate programmes in managements. Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the programme.
As per the official notification, for the MBA course, the institute will enrol a total of 46 candidates and for the MBA IB course, the intake will be 46. The seats for the general course are likely to be enhanced to 92.
Eligibility criteria
Candidates interested in applying for the MBA courses should have a bachelor's degree under 10+2+3 pattern in any discipline, or in agriculture, technology, medicine, education or law, or postgraduate degree in any discipline from any university/institute recognized by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) / All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

In order to be eligible for admission, all candidates must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination. For SC/ST candidates, at least 45% marks are required. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination are required to furnish a certificate from the Head of the Institution where they are pursuing the course stating that he/she has appeared or will be appearing in the qualifying examination to be concluded on or before June 30, 2016. Such candidate will be offered provisional admission till he/she can submit the proof of acquiring minimum eligibility criteria i.e. mark-sheet of the qualifying examination by October 05, 2017.
Candidates need to also fulfil the minimum eligibility requirement for appearing in CAT 2016. The admission will be only through CAT 2016 conducted by IIM.

Application fee
Candidates need to pay Rs. 1500 for each application form. SC/ST applicants need to pay Rs 800 only.The application fee is payable through demand draft in favour of the Registrar, Banaras Hindu university, payable at Varanasi.
Selection process
All the eligible candidates will be selected on the basis of the combined merit of the candidates in CAT conducted by IIM (50%), academic records (20%) and group discussion (GD) (15%) and personal interview (15%).
Candidates shortlisted on the basis of CAT 2016 score will be called for GD and PI, which will be conducted by the Institute as per schedule decided by the admission committee of the institute. The candidates called shall be required to remit a fee of Rs.2000 or as decided by the Dean, FMS in the form of DD in favour of the Registrar, Banaras Hindu University payable at SBI, BHU.
Candidates will be called for counselling for provisional admission. While coming for counselling, candidates are required to bring with them all the original documents (certificates, mark sheets including caste certificate, migration certificate by non-BHU candidates/ transfer certificates by BHU candidates etc.) In case provisional admission is offered to a candidate, all his/her original documents will be detained in the Institute and the same will be returned after completion of admission formalities.
The candidate provisionally selected for admission shall be required to fill the prescribed form, submit the required documents, collect his/her admit card for admission to the course from the office of the Department and pay fees by a date fixed for the purpose, otherwise the offer made to him/her will automatically stand cancelled and the seat thus falling vacant shall be offered to the next candidate in order of merit under the specified category.
Supernumerary seats
In addition the reservations as per the government, BHU has a few supernumerary seats reserved. About 15 % of intake will be of candidates seeking admissions underpaid seat scheme. Admission underpaid seats will be made after completion of regular seat admissions. A separate merit list will be drawn from the remaining candidates who are willing to be considered for admission under the scheme as per option submitted by the candidates at the time of GD and interview.
Candidates under Non-Resident Indian (NRI) and Person of Indian origin (PIO) will be considered for admission under 15% Foreign Nationals seats quota, and as per University rule. All the application forms have to be submitted in the office of the International Students Advisor, International Students Centre, BHU, for processing for the Foreign Nationals seat admission. The International Students’ Advisor, with the help of the Admission Committee constituted to look after the admission work of the foreign nationals, will examine the eligibility of each applicant to the course and also the equivalence of the qualifying examination passed by the candidate. The International Students Advisor shall issue the eligibility letter to the concerned foreign nationals if they are found eligible.
Foreign Nationals are exempted from appearing in written test (CAT), GD and PI. Admission will be on the basis of a valid score in GMAT (500 or above). The degree/certificates of the candidates have been recognised and approved by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)/Commonwealth Universities/ International Association of Universities (IAU) as equivalent to the corresponding Indian degrees/certificates. The applicant should have completed 17 years of age and there is no maximum age limit for Foreign Nationals.

Candidates offered admission underpaid seat quota,will have to pay the annual fee of Rs. 1,25,000 as the first instalment at the time of provisional admission. The second instalment of Rs 1,25,000 will have to be paid before commencement of third-semester class, failing which the student will not be registered as a regular student in the third-semester class. In addition, such candidates are also required to pay regular fee in cash at the Fee Counter of the University
The quantum of processing charges, additional charges and fee structure may be modified by BHU from time to time.
Course curriculum
For both courses, general MBA and MBA IB learning is made interactive through lectures, seminars, role-plays, simulated games, group assignments, video sessions, multimedia presentations, laboratory exercises, case analysis and business games with an emphasis on industry-sponsored live projects. The emphasis is on learning the applications of concepts rather than just a theoretical understanding. According to the notification, the curriculum is upgraded every alternate year to cater to the dynamic business environment. The University follows Choice Based Credit System.
