Former prime minister Manmohan Singh's media adviser Sanjaya Baru’s book- The Accidental Prime Minister: The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh- which was a ball by ball cricket commentary right from the corridors of power, is all set to take the form of a bollywood movie.
Producer Sunil Bohra has acquired the film rights for the book to portray the events of the 10 years of Manmohan Singh’s government on the 70 mm silver screen. The film is expected to release at the end of 2018.
"My sole intention is to make a movie covering the 10 most crucial years (from 2004 to 2014), which changed the political spectrum of our country and fortunes of India's oldest political party - the Congress," Bohra said to the Economic Times.
Just before the 2014 general elections, Baru dropped a book bomb on the already battered and bruised Congress party. Baru's book did not provide any ointment to the wounds of his former boss Singh or the Congress-led UPA government, which had almost become a synonym for large scale corruption scandals like 2G spectrum, Commonwealth Games and coal block allocations among others. In fact, what it did provide was more fire power to the then PM aspirant Narendra Modi and his party BJP.
"My movie will be denuded of any political agenda and bereft of any political leanings. It will be a true reflection of what has been authored by Mr Baru in his book," Bohra adds.
Bohra has been asked to “not add” anything new to the script, and he plans to keep the film "apolitical".
Bohra Bros. Production Pvt. Ltd has been associated with hits like Gangs of Wasseypur, Tanu Weds Manu and Sahib Biwi aur Gangster, Chittagong and Shahid.
