Belgian Princess, Deputy PM to visit India on Nov 23

To open Antwerp Diamond Bank branch in Mumbai and a consulate general in Chennai

Following Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to Belgium last month, Princess Astrid of Belgium is paying a visit to India from November 23 to 29, leading a huge trade delegation of around 300 businessmen. The focus of the visit is to boost trade and investment ties between India and Belgium under the Belgian Foreign Trade Agency.

Princess Astrid will be accompanied by Didier Reynders, deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, foreign trade and European affairs; Kris Peeters, Flemish minister for economy, foreign policy, agriculture and rural policy; and Celine Fremault, minister of economy, employment, scientific research, trade and foreign trade for the Brussels-Capital Region.

During their week-long stay in India, the delegation will visit Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. The high-powered business delegation will include leaders of diamond firms from Antwerp, luxury brands, infrastructure and logistics companies, among others.

In Delhi, the delegation will address business chambers during an investment seminar and hold official meetings with political leaders. They will also visit Antwerp Diamond Lab in Mumbai and will officially open the branch office of Antwerp Diamond Bank.

In Chennai, Princess Astrid will open a consulate general.

Among the major items that India imports from Belgium are precious stones and metals, chemical products, and machinery and equipment, while major export items include base metals and chemicals.
