As locals rescued 12 soldiers after a truck ferrying them overturned in Lasjan near Srinagar on Ocotber 10, the Congress Party on Monday said it shows people how the belief of am exisiting gap between the armed forces and local population is not entirely true and that "there are still human relationships and human bonds."
"That's very good. I mean it shows people, who believe that there is a complete gap between our armed forces and the local population because of the tension that has existed for the last two-three months, is not entirely true. There are still human relationships and human bonds," former minister of external affairs and senior Congress leader, Salman Khurshid, told ANI.
"I think this gives us 'great' encouragement and it persuades us that there is scope that finally this tension will settle down and we will find a happy solution so that everybody in Jammu and Kashmir can happily live in the Indian family, in the large Indian enterprise and make a positive contribution to it," Khurshid added.
As the army truck met with an accident, locals rushed to the spot and evacuated 12 army personnel from the truck by lining up a tipper near the army truck.
The soldiers were on their way to BB Cantt, when their truck overturned in Lasjan area.
"The Indian Army thanked the locals, who helped and rescued them, especially women," said army sources.
