Describing the recent increase in petrol prices as a “midnight massacre” of people, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asked people to revolt against the ruling UPA government by not paying taxes and not cooperating with the Union government, as the Congress doesn’t deserve to remain in power.

The Opposition stopped short of asking for a ‘no trust vote’ against the government in the coming winter session of Parliament, although they emphasised that the issue will be discussed by senior leaders before the session begins.

The BJP leadership also warned the allies of UPA must immediately leave the alliance or else they would become part of the crime of increase prices, committed by the Union government.

“I am taking full responsibility for what I say. I am asking people to revolt against this government by not paying taxes and not cooperating with the government. This government doesn’t deserve to be in power and people should show them the door,” said Yashwant Sinha, former finance minister and senior BJP leader.

The BJP leader blamed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for a rise in petrol prices and alleged that the Centre had become insensitive towards the problems of people.

“I will not ask the Prime Minister to resign because I know he has become insensitive. I want to know when was the last time when he went to a village or interacted with the people. Both, Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi, have no idea of real India and he is running the country from his residence at the Race Course Road,” Sinha alleged.

Stating the move as unjustified, Sinha argued that prices of petrol were highest in the entire sub-continent and the Union government should reduce taxes to bring down price of petrol.
