The use of "brutal, disproportionate force" is not going to solve the Kashmir problem, Communist Party of India-Marxist parliamentarian Mohammed Salim said in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
Salim also asked the central government to call an all-party meeting over the present situation in Kashmir.
Participating in a discussion on the Kashmir situation, Salim stressed on the need to address the Kashmiri people's grievances and "put balm over dejected hearts" to win their confidence.
The CPI-M leader also said that while it was clear that "Pakistan has evil designs over Kashmir," the Indian government should tweak its policy accordingly to tackle the situation.
"Mere blame game with Pakistan won't help. Pakistan ki niyat kharab hai, toh hame bhi apni neeti ko badalna hoga (If Pakistan has nefarious designs, we should also change our policy)," he said.
