A three-story building on Saturday collapsed in a temple town of Maihar (450 km from Bhopal), reportedly due to heavy rains, leaving two persons dead and several injured.

As many as 30 people are still trapped under the debris, government sources said. In a separate incident in Sagar (250 km from Bhopal) another house collapsed, leaving seven people dead, while two other died in Katni when a house caved in due to heavy rains.

“As of now, seven people have been rescued from the Maihar building; of them two are dead. The people were evacuated from building a few days ago. None was residing. These people might be labourers,” a government spokesperson from Rewa told Business Standard.

As many as 15 people have died due to heavy rains in the state,” a state government statement said.

However, unconfirmed sources said the building was recently constructed and had housed few families. It  had 12 flats and 32 shops at ground floor where people took refuse from rains.

“As many as 12 teams of National Disaster Relief Teams are working in Rewa-Panna area. Army has also been called, two helicopters and 30 boats have been deployed in the area. As many as 32 village of Rewa, 62 villages of Satna and 41 villages of Panna districts are surrounded by flooding water. As many as 15 people have died due to heavy rains in the state,” a state government statement said.
