On the eve of Holi, pyres are burnt to ward off the evil. Every year people come up with different themes for effigies and this year the dummy of king of good times will go up in flames. This Holika dehan is to send out a strong message of anger that people have against Mallya.

He is now officially in the ranks of Ajmal Kasab, defecation, cigarettes, and Asaduddin Owaisi. Quite a fall for the king of good times.

Yes, that's the 50-feet effigy of Vijay Mallya placed at BDD chawls in Mumbai on Tuesday, bearing a remarkable resemblance to a Bollywood star. Sanjay Dutt won't be pleased. Photo: Kamlesh Pednekar

BJP suuporters have already burnt an effigy of AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi in anticipation of Holi in Bhopal. Why wait to perform a good deed, we guess. Photo: PTI

2015 was the year of the Peshawar school attacks. A tragedy memorialised on Holi by burning an effigy of a Talibani terrorist.  Photo: Rediff

Residents of a chawl in Mumbai did their bit for global health by setting ablaze a cigarette. Surely more dramatic than all those 'Smoking Kills' messages plastered over the theatre screens. Photo: Rediff

Yes, that is indeed the head of a pig atop the Holi pyre. No, the folks in Mumbai have no problem with pork. This one was all about fighting the spread of swine flu. Photo: Rediff
