Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation masterstroke and moving towards cashless economy has led to such a liquidity crunch in the economy that a man in Madurai decided to pay Rs 5 through a cheque for using a public loo.

The authenticity of this cheque has not been verified, but his post has, unsurprisingly, left social media users in splits.

While some Facebook users said "service will be provided after clearance of cheque", another went to the extent of advising 'pay to modi' paytm.

Demonetisation has led to boom in cashless payments. A report in Economic Times said the plastic cards industry is experiencing a resurgence on the back of government’s crackdown on black money. As the Reserve Bank of India encourages banks to go full throttle on disbursement of debit and credit cards, orders are pouring in from all sectors of the industry for fresh smart cards.

At a rally in Moradabad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said, "What I have done is to start a queue to end all queues". While it seems a distant dream in the current scenario, citizens can use all wit and humor to lighten the atmosphere of animosity and fear of what future holds for them.
