The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has included a certificate course on sand art in its curriculum, which will be designed and developed by the famous sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik, and it will be offered online.
“IGNOU will launch a one-month online training program on sand art from the next academic session”, said IGNOU vice-chancellor Ravindra Kumar.
The modalities of this certificate course, which is first-of-its-kind in the world, would be finalised within three months and the course will be introduced first to students from Bhubaneswar and later in other centres.
The course will be based on both theory and practical content and the classes will be recorded and shall be made available online for students.
Pattnaik said, “Digitising sand art, as a course, will help generations of students to learn and improve on it.”
He also said: “Sand art is essentially a practical art and the more the students practise, the more they will learn. The videos will have all the details and step-by-step procedure about the making of sculptures on the Puri beach.”
