Chhattisgarh government on Tuesday announced a six per cent increase in the Dearness Allowances (DA) for its employees that include regular staffers and pensioners.
The hike would be implemented with retrospective effect from January 1, 2015 and will apply to employees in local administration, teaching and non-teaching staff in government-aided educational institutions, village assistants, anganwadi workers, and others, a notification issued by the finance department said.
"The chief minister, Raman Singh, who also holds the finance portfolio, approved the proposal following which the notification for increasing the DA was issued today," a state government spokesperson said. The state government employees as well as pensioners would be entitled for DA at the rate of 113 per cent of the basic pay, the spokesperson added.
According to the officials with the department of finance, the state exchequer would incur an additional burden of about Rs 326 crore due to the increase in DA. The hike would result in a hike of Rs 645 to Rs 5000 in the monthly wages of government employees, they added.
In all, about 225000 state government employees and around 80,000 pensioners would be benefitted with the decision of the Chhattisgarh government.
The State Employees' Union Chhattisgarh President Veerendra Namdev and Mantralaya Employees' Union President Keertivardhan Upadhyaya and other office-bearers, members and other employees' union had expressed gratitude and thanked the Chief Minister, Raman Singh for increasing the DA.
