The state vigilance wing today raided houses of 29 corporators of Cuttack Municipality Corporation (CMC) and the corporation office a day after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered a probe into alleged misappropriation of relief materials meant for cyclone evacuee and victims in the area.
As many as 30 teams of vigilance sleuths were engaged in the raids. They searched the CMC office and quizzed the officials responsible for distribution of the relief materials and seized several documents.
On Monday, the government had shunted the CMC commissioner Nihar Ranjan Mohapatra from his post and suspended deputy commissioner Jaganarayan Kujur in connection with the alleged loot. The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has also suspended the party's Cuttack unit president and corporator Madhusudan Sahu for his alleged role in the scam.
