Coronavirus LIVE updates: India's coronavirus caseload inched close to 9.4 million with 41,810 new infections being reported in a day, while the number of people who have recovered from the disease crossed 8.8 million-mark, pushing the national recovery rate to 93.71 per cent.  The country's Covid-19 death toll has risen to 136,705.

At 1,808,550, Maharashtra has the highest number of coronavirus cases, followed by Karnataka 881,086, Andhra Pradesh 866,000, Tamil Nadu 777,616 and Kerala 587,578. Delhi recorded 5,482 fresh Covid-19 cases in a day, while 98 more fatalities linked to the disease pushed the city's death toll to 8,909.

World coronavirus update: The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at 62,573,187. While 43,193,984 have recovered, 1,458,305 have died so far. The US, the worst-hit country, has 13,608,696 cases, and 271,025 have died from the disease there. It is followed by India, which has 9,390,791 cases, Brazil (6,290,272), Russia (2,242,633), France (2,208,699).

Maharashtra reports 5,544 new cases of Covid-19, 85 deaths

Maharashtra on Sunday reported 5,544 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 18,20,059.
 

According to the state health department, as many as 85 people succumbed to COVID-19, pushing the death toll to 47,071 in the state.

All educational institutions to remain closed across J-K till year end

Issuing fresh COVID-related guidelines, the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday said all educational institutions would remain closed till December 31 while no fresh permission or passes are required for activities which were already permitted in the union territory.
 

It also put all the 20 districts, 10 each in Kashmir and Jammu regions, in the orange category but said the Lakhanpur -- the gateway to J-K bordering Punjab on National highway 44 -- with a buffer of 500-metre radius and the Jawahar Tunnel, which connects Kashmir with the Jammu region, on either side have been classified as red zones.

Assam's Covid-19 death toll rises to 981

Assam reported one more fatality due to COVID-19 on Sunday, pushing the death toll to 981, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
 

The coronavirus tally in the state rose to 2,12,617 with 134 fresh cases, he said.

TN record's decline in Covid-19 deaths; 1,459 new cases added

Tamil Nadu on Sunday witnessed a sharp decline in COVID-19 fatalities as nine people succumbed to the virus pushing the toll to 11,703, after hitting several peaks over the last several months.
 

In August, number of deaths due to coronavirus had hit a peak with over 120 being reported. Later, it hovered in double digits range for several months.

96 new Covid-19 cases take Chandigarh's tally to 17,342; death toll 276

The COVID-19 death toll in Chandigarh rose to 276 on Sunday with two more fatalities, while 96 new cases pushed the infection tally to 17,342, a medical bulletin issued here said.
 

There are 1,140 active cases currently, it said.

Ahmedabad district adds 345 fresh Covid-19 cases

Ahmedabad district on Sunday reported 345 new coronavirus positive cases, the highest in Gujarat, taking its tally to 49,765, state health department said.
 

With 11 patients succumbing to the infection, also highest in the state in the day, the toll mounted to 2,047, it said.

MP reports 1,514 new Covid-19 cases, and 13 die

Madhya Pradesh on Sunday reported 1,514 new cases of Covid-19, taking its overall count of infections to 2,04,745, an official said.

 

Thirteen people died and 1,508 others recovered during the day, which took the death toll in the state to 3,250 and recovery count to 1,86,521, he said.

 

"Four people died in Indore, two in Bhopal and one each in Gwalior, Jabalpur, Khargone, Ratlam, Betul, Sidhi and Guna during the day," the official said.

1,564 new Covid-19 cases in Gujarat; 1,451 recover, 16 die

Gujarat recorded 1,564 new coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, taking the overall tally in the state to 2,08,278, the health department said.

 

The fatality count increased to 3,969 as 16 more patients succumbed to the infection, it said.

44 new cases push Nagaland's Covid-19 tally to 11,159

Nagaland's Covid-19 tally rose to 11,159 on Sunday as 44 more people tested positive for the infection, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said.

 

As many as 174 more people were cured of the disease, pushing the recovery rate among the coronavirus patients in the state to 88.69 per cent, he said.

 

Dimapur district reported 27 new cases, Kohima 16 and Tuensang one, he said.
