Kazakhstan sets new record of nearly 7,900 daily COVID-19 cases

A record 7,899 new coronavirus cases -- the highest single-day increase since the start of the pandemic -- has been recorded in Kazakhstan over the past day, the national coronavirus response center said on Saturday.
 
The previous record of 7,803 cases was registered on August 1.
 
"Over the past day, 7,899 new cases of the coronavirus were registered [in Kazakhstan]," the center said in a statement, adding that the total number of those infected has reached 626,412.

US now averaging 100,000 new COVID-19 infections a day

The US is now averaging 100,000 new COVID-19 infections a day, returning to a milestone last seen during the winter surge in yet another bleak reminder of how quickly the delta variant has spread through the country.
 
The U.S. was averaging about 11,000 cases a day in late June. Now the number is 107,143.
 
It took the U.S. about nine months to cross the 100,000 average case number in November before peaking at about 250,000 in early January. Cases bottomed out in June but took about six weeks to go back above 100,000, despite a vaccine that has been given to more than 70% of the adult population.

Puducherry saw 102 fresh cases of coronavirus during last twenty-four hours ending 10 am on Saturday, taking the overall caseload to 1,21,523.
 
The new cases were identified at the end of examination of 5521 samples and were spread over Puducherry 69, Karaikal 9 and Mahe 24.

Arunachal Pradesh reports 227 new COVID-19 cases, 1 more death

Two hundred and twenty-seven more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the virus tally in the frontier state to 49,668, a senior health department official said here on Saturday.
 
The COVID-19 death toll in the northeastern state increased to 237 with one more person succumbing to the infection on Friday, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

As many as 800 million Indians got free ration during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday.
 
These include five crore people from Madhya Pradesh, Modi said, during a video interaction with Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana beneficiaries from the state.
 
Describing the coronavirus pandemic as the biggest disaster faced by humanity in the last 100 years, Modi also said people should continue to wear masks, sanitize hands and maintain social distancing to check the spread of the virus.

Once largely Covid free, Asian economies now upended by Delta

The delta variant is challenging the part of the world that’s been most successful in blunting the economic impact of Covid-19, with Asian countries that snuffed it out locking down again as the virus returns, and others seeing the world’s highest death rates.
 

India saw a single-day rise of 38,628 new coronavirus cases, taking the infection tally to 31,895,385, while the death toll climbed to 427,371 with 617 fresh fatalities, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Saturday.

The active cases have declined to 412,153 and comprise 1.29 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.37 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.

A decrease of 2,006 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the global coronavirus caseload has topped 201 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 4.27 million and vaccinations soared to over 4.34 billion, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Saturday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload, death toll stood and vaccination tally stood at 201,690,263, 4,276,940 and 4,346,167,629, respectively.
