Andhra records 1,217 more Covid cases, 13 deaths in a day

Andhra Pradesh on Saturday recorded 1,217 new Covid cases, raising the state's overall tally beyond 20 lakh, even as its active caseload dropped to 15,141.

As many as 1,535 more persons recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours, increasing the state's total number of recoveries over 19.7 lakh.

Nellore district reported the highest number of cases at 198, followed by East Godavari (182), Chittoor (171), Krishna (136), West Godavari (123), Prakasam (113), Guntur (101), Visakhapatnam (58), Vizianagaram (47), Srikakulam (33), Kadapa (23), Anantapur (17) and Kurnool (15).

Except for Vizianagaram, all the other districts of Andhra Pradesh have now reported more than 1 lakh Covid cases, though Vizianagaram is also drawing closer towards that mark, just short of 18,000 cases.

Pondy sees dip in number of new coronavirus cases

Puducherry witnessed a drop in daily cases of COVID-19 with 59 fresh infections being reported in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 1,22,832.
 
The number of new cases recorded today were identified at the end of examination of 3,501 samples. While Puducherry region accounted for 48 cases, Karaikal reported three and Mahe eight cases. Yanam region an enclave of Puducherry in Andhra Pradesh did not report any fresh case of infection.
 
The active cases were 908 of whom 151 were in hospitals and the remaining 757 patients were in home isolation, Director of Health and Family Welfare Services G.Sriramulu said on Saturday.

A single-day rise of 34,457 Covid-19 cases pushed India's tally to 32,393,286 on Saturday, while the number of active cases declined to 361,340, the lowest in 151 days, according to Union health ministry data.

The death toll climbed to 433,964 with 375 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.

The 361,340 active cases comprise 1.12 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March last year. The national Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 97.54 per cent, the highest since March last year, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, the US-based pharma major, Johnson & Johnson (J&J), has sought permission from the Indian drug regulator to conduct trials of its Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine on adolescents aged 12 to 17 years.
