Coronavirus updates: India recorded a spike of 22,431 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. The country also witnessed 318 deaths, taking the death toll to 449,856. So far, India has recorded 33,894,312 corona cases in total. Delhi reported 27 Covid-19 cases and no fatality. Kerala recorded 12,616 new Covid-19 cases and Maharashtra 2,876 cases.

Bharat Biotech said on Wednesday data on clinical trials for its Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin, conducted on children aged 2 to 18 has been submitted to the country's drug regulator.

World coronavirus update: Covid-19 is continuing to spread around the world, with 237,047,685 confirmed cases and 4,839,376 deaths across nearly 200 countries recorded since China reported its first cases in December 2019. The US remains the worst-hit country with 44,913,970 cases, followed by India, Brazil, UK and Russia.

No quarantine for Covishield vaccinated Indians travelling to UK from Oct 11

Indians fully vaccinated with Covishield or any other UK-approved vaccine travelling to the UK will not have to undergo quarantine from Monday (October 11), British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, said on Thursday.

 

Ellis tweeted, "No quarantine for Indian travellers to United Kingdom fully vaccinated with Covishield or other UK-approved vaccine from October 11. Thanks to Indian government for close cooperation over last month."

 

The UK travel advisory had made 10-day quarantine mandatory for Indian travellers, who have received both doses of Covishield manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII).

 

However, after facing criticism for different quarters, the UK travel advisory has accommodated Covishield as an approved vaccine in the UK.

Covid united all Indians, says President Kovind

President of India Ram Nath Kovind said the devastating Covid spell in the country has united all Indians in the fight against an invisible enemy.

 

He was speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the newly built Teaching Hospital of the Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences at Chamarajanagar, Karnataka on Thursday.

 

"We faced a devastating wave of Covid infections this year. It was a serious crisis, but it also united all Indians in the fight against the invisible enemy," he noted.

Delhi reports 44 COVID-19 cases, zero daily deaths; positivity rate 0.07 pc

Delhi recorded 44 COVID-19 cases and zero daily deaths due to the disease on Thursday, while the positivity rate was recorded at 0.07 per cent, data shared by the city government showed.

 

The national capital has recorded only one death due to the infection in October so far. Last month, five people had succumbed to the viral disease.

 

Fifteen more patients have been discharged from hospitals in the city, according to the data.

 

With the new cases, the coronavirus infection tally in the city climbed to 14,39,097. Over 14.13 lakh patients have recovered from the disease so far, and the death toll stands at 25,088.

 

According to the health bulletin, authorities conducted 64,079 tests, including 43,698 RT-PCR ones, the previous day.

 

There are 383 active Covid cases in Delhi at present, up from 354 a day ago. While 112 patients are in home-isolation, the number of containment zones stands at 102, the data showed.

 

Delhi reported 26 fresh cases of the coronavirus infection and zero deaths on Wednesday.

Telangana adds 176 new COVID-19 cases

Telangana's overall COVID-19 tally mounted to 6,67,334 with 176 fresh infections being reported on Thursday, while the toll rose to 3,926 with one related fatality.

 

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 53, followed by Karimnagar and Ranga Reddy 14 each, a state government bulletin said, providing details as of 5.30 PM on Thursday. The number of recoveries outnumbered fresh cases today with 216 people recuperating from the infectious disease. The cumulative number of recoveries till date was 6,59,043. The number of active cases stood at 4,365, the bulletin said. As many as 37,857 samples were tested on Thursday and the total number of samples tested till date was 2.66 crore. The samples tested per million population was 7,16,469. The case fatality rate in the state was 0.58 per cent, while it was 1.3 per cent at the national level. The recovery rate in Telangana was 98.75 per cent, while it was 97.93 per cent in the country.

Over 118k active cases in Kerala

Kerala on Thursday logged 12,288 fresh COVID-19 cases and 141 deaths, taking the infection count to 47,63,722 and fatalities to 25,952.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has issued the detailed guidelines for PM CARES for Children Scheme. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on May 29, 2021 had announced comprehensive support for children who have lost both their parents due to Covid pandemic. The objective of the scheme is to ensure comprehensive care and protection of children who have lost their parent(s) to COVID pandemic, in a sustained manner, enable their wellbeing through health insurance, empower them through education and equip them for self-sufficient existence with financial support on reaching 23 years of age.

263 children among 1,302 new Covid-19 patients in Mizoram

Mizoram's COVID-19 tally rose to 1,02,629 on Thursday as 1,302 more people, including 263 children, tested positive for the infection, while six fresh fatalities pushed the northeastern state's coronavirus death toll to 341, a health official said.

 

The state had reported 1,471 cases and four fatalities on Wednesday.

 

Aizawl district registered the highest number of fresh infections at 728, followed by Lunglei (147) and Champhai (113), the official said, adding that the single-day positivity rate stood at 13.35 per cent.

 

Seven people have travel history, while 1,295 fresh infections were detected during contact tracing, he said, adding that 38 inmates of Kolasib District Prison were among the new patients.
