Over 1,650 black fungus cases in Delhi

There were 952 active cases of black fungus in Delhi as on July 6, which was more than the count of active cases of COVID-19 till that date, according to official data.
 
The data also showed that till July 6, Delhi had recorded over 1,650 cases mucormycosis (black fungus).
 
On March 27, the Delhi government had declared black fungus an epidemic, even as Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal had issued regulations under the Epidemic Diseases Act to contain and manage cases of the deadly mucormycosis in the city. Till then, over 600 cases of mucormycosis were reported.

West Bengal govt unlikely to completely lift Covid restrictions

The West Bengal government may not completely lift the coronavirus-related restrictions that have been imposed in the state till July 15, a senior official said on Tuesday. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to review the COVID-19 situation on Wednesday and the final call, he said.
 
"Though the pandemic situation in the state has improved a lot, withdrawing the restrictions completely might still be risky. Nearby states like Tripura and Odisha and even Bangladesh have reported a surge in cases.
 
"Therefore, we need to be extra cautious... The CM will decide on it," the official told PTI. READ MORE...

Maharashtra reports 7,243 Covid cases, 196 deaths; 10,978 patients recover

Maharashtra reported 7,243 new coronavirus cases and 196 fatalities on Tuesday, taking the tally of infections to 61,72,645 and death toll to 1,26,220, a health department official said.
 
As many as 10,978 patients were discharged from hospitals since Monday evening, taking the number of recovered cases to 59,38,734, he added. The state now has 1,04,406 active COVID-19 cases. Maharashtra's COVID-19 recovery rate is 96.21 per cent, while the fatality rate is 2.04 per cent, the official said.

41 active Covid cases in Noida, 33 in Ghaziabad

The number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 41 in Gautam Buddh Nagar and 33 in Ghaziabad on Tuesday, according to official data. Gautam Buddh Nagar recorded five new cases, while Ghaziabad added two more in a period of 24 hours till Tuesday 6 am, the data issued by the Uttar Pradesh Health department showed.
 
The overall number of positive cases reached 63,127 in Gautam Buddh Nagar and 55,585 in Ghaziabad, it showed.
 
On the brighter side, five patients recovered in Gautam Buddh Nagar and four in Ghaziabad, with the overall recoveries in these districts reaching 62,620 and 55,091 respectively, the data stated. The death toll due to the disease stood at 466 in Gautam Buddh Nagar and 461 in Ghaziabad, according to the data. Meanwhile, the number of active cases in UP reached 1,479 on Tuesday, while the overall recoveries surged to 16,83,319 and the death toll mounted to 22,707, the data showed.

Remdesivir, HCQ show no antiviral effect against Covid, says study

Remdesivir and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) showed no antiviral activity in hospitalised patients with COVID-19 in Norway, according to a study published on Tuesday.
 
While HCQ is used to prevent or treat malaria, remdesivir is sold as an antiviral drug.
 
The researchers from Oslo University Hospital and colleagues randomly assigned 181 hospitalised patients in 23 hospitals in Norway to receive remdesivir, HCQ, or standard of care. READ MORE...

Andhra records 2,000 more Covid cases, tally 19.2 lakh

Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday logged 2,567 new Covid cases, raising the state's overall tally over 19.2 lakh, even as its active caseload dropped to 26,710.
 
As many as 3,034 more persons recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours, raising the state's total number of recoveries over 18.8 lakh.
 
East Godavari district reported the highest number of cases at 356, followed by Chittoor (300), West Godavari (279), Guntur and Krishna (269 each), Nellore (244), Visakhapatnam (199), Anantapur (81), Srikakulam (77), Vizianagaram (49) and Kurnool (18).

Over 1 crore people vaccinated against Covid in Haryana: Health minister Anil Vij

More than one crore eligible beneficiaries have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Haryana till date, Health Minister Anil Vij said on Tuesday. The minister also congratulated the health department and 'corona warriors' for the "big achievement".
 
So far, over 4.14 lakh healthcare workers and more than 3.79 lakh frontline workers have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Haryana, Vij told reporters here.
 
"Similarly, more than 26.68 lakh people above 60 years, over 27 lakh people between 45 years and 60 years and more than 38.91 lakh people in 18-44 age group have been vaccinated," he said. "Thus, so far, over one crore beneficiaries have been vaccinated (in the state)," he said.

Mumbai sees 441 fresh Covid-19 cases, lowest after February 9

Mumbai on Tuesday reported 441 new coronavirus positive cases, the lowest after February 9 this year, and eight fatalities, the city civic body said.
 

With the new additions, the tally of COVID-19 infections in Mumbai reached 7,28,615 and the toll 15,644, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) update. The city is now left with 6,950 active cases.

2,505 Covid-19 infections, 48 fatalities in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu reported 2,505 new COVID-19 cases, including returnees from the United Arab Emirates, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh, pushing the overall caseload to 25,23,943.
 

The number of deaths mounted to 33,502 with 48 people succumbing to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Corona updates: India has recorded 32,906 fresh cases taking the total caseload to 30,907,282, according to MoHFW. The death count increased to 410,784 with 2,020 new fatalities, the data showed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the chief ministers of eight north-eastern states on today to discuss the Covid-19 situation amid concerns over the coronavirus numbers in the region. While most parts of the country have seen a steady decline in the Covid numbers, the northeast region has been a cause of concern with the number of cases either rising or not falling in line with the nationwide trend, experts have noted.

Kerala reported 7,798 new infections, Maharashtra 7,603, followed by Tamil Nadu (2,652), Karnataka (1,386), Andhra Pradesh (1,578), West Bengal (885) and Delhi (45).

From the northeastern states, Assam reported 2,575 new cases and Manipur 890.

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (6,165,402), Kerala (3,073,134), Karnataka (2,872,684), Tamil Nadu (2,521,438), and Andhra Pradesh (1,924,421).

World coronavirus update: Covid-19 is continuing to spread around the world, with 188,036,933 confirmed cases and 4,055,321 deaths across nearly 200 countries recorded since China reported its first cases in December 2019. The US remains the worst-hit country with 34,763,370 cases, followed by India, Brazil, France and Russia.
