Lockdown to continue in five Assam districts with high positivity rate

Five districts of Assam will continue to be under total lockdown owing to their high Covid-19 positivity rate while the movement of people to and from other districts across the state will remain suspended, state Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said on Monday.
 
These five districts Jorhat, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Biswanath, and Lakhimpur - along with two others, were declared as total containment zones on July 7 for showing a high Covid-19 positivity rate. Read here

39 fully vaccinated students of govt medical college test Covid positive

At least 39 fully vaccinated medical students of the Government Medical Hospital here have tested positive for Covid-19, hospital authorities said on Monday.
 
The medical college, closed due to Covid-19 induced lockdown, was reopened on June 1 and the first batch of the students reported back to the campus on June 5.
 
The second batch of 175 students arrived on June 6, among whom the first case of Covid-19 was confirmed the same day, the authorities said. Read here

Coronavirus Latest: UK opts not to vaccinate most under-18s

The British government decided on Monday not to inoculate most children and teenagers against Covid-19 until more data on the available vaccines becomes available.
 
Children as young as 12 with severe neuro-disabilities, Down Syndrome, immunosuppression and multiple or severe learning disabilities, as well as those who are household contacts of individuals who are immunosuppressed, will be eligible for vaccination, the government said. Read here

Coronavirus Latest: 40 fresg cases in UP in a day, 7 more deaths

Uttar Pradesh recorded 40 fresh coronavirus and seven deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the number of infections and fatalities to 17,07,884 and 22,728 respectively, the health bulletin said on Monday.
 
The latest deaths were reported from Kanpur at three, followed by one each from Allahabad, Amethi, Mirzapur and Chandauli, it said.
 
A total of 99 persons were discharged after recovery from the infection in the last 24 hours, Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Navneet Sehgal said. (PTI)

Coronavirus Latest: J&K records 123 new Covid cases, 1 death

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 123 fresh coronavirus cases and one death on Monday, taking the number of infections and fatalities to 3,20,024 and 4,365 respectively, officials said.
 
Of the new cases, 51 were from the Jammu division and 72 from the Kashmir division of the union territory, they said.
 
Srinagar recorded the highest number of cases at 33, followed by 17 in Jammu and 15 in Doda district. (PTI)

Kerala's TPR crosses 11 per cent with 9,931 fresh cases

Kerala on Monday logged 9,931 fresh Covid-19 cases, pushing the infection caseload to 31,70,868, with the Test Positivity Rate climbing to 11.08 per cent after remaining around the 10 per cent mark for several weeks.
 
The number of people who have succumbed to the virus rose to 15,408 with 58 more deaths, a state government release said.
 
As many as 13,206 people have been cured of the infection, taking the total recoveries to 30,33,258 and the number of active cases in the state to 121,708, it said. (PTI)

Coronavirus LIVE: Manipur reports 774 news positive cases

Manipur reports 774 news positive cases, 16 deaths and 741 recoveries in the last 24 hours. Active cases at 9,693, total positive cases at 85,596, according to the state health department

Coronavirus updates: India recorded 38,164 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total caseload to 31,143,595, according to MoHFW. The death count increased to 414,141 with 501 new fatalities, the data showed.

Kerala reported 13,956 new infections, Maharashtra 9,000, followed by Andhra Pradesh (2,974), Tamil Nadu (2,079), Karnataka (1,708), West Bengal (899) and Delhi (51).

From the northeastern states, Assam reported 1,329 new cases and Manipur 963.

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (6,214,190), Kerala (3,160,937), Karnataka (2,883,947), Tamil Nadu (2,535,402), and Andhra Pradesh (1,940,096).

World coronavirus update: Covid-19 is continuing to spread around the world, with 191,196,634 confirmed cases and 4,105,435 deaths across nearly 200 countries recorded since China reported its first cases in December 2019. The US remains the worst-hit country with 34,963,907 cases, followed by India, Brazil, Russia and France.
