Chhattisgarh govt writes to Centre to include journalists in Covid vaccination drive

Amid the increasing number of Covid-19 cases across the country, the Chhattisgarh government has written to the Centre to include journalists in the nation-wide vaccination drive, Chhattisgarh health minister TS Singhdeo informed on Friday.
 
He further informed that as many as 4,617 new cases were reported on Thursday, the highest ever recorded in the state.
 
"The Chhattisgarh government has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan to include journalists in the COVID-19 vaccination drive," he told ANI.

Thane district adds 4,350 Covid-19 cases, 18 patients die

With the addition of 4,350 coronavirus cases, the infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra has mounted to 323,661,an official said on Friday.
 
These new cases were reported on Thursday, he said.
 
As 18 patients succumbed to the infection during the day, the death toll in the district rose to 6,510.
 
The district's Covid-19 mortality rate is 1.99 per cent, he added.

1,422 fresh Covid-19 cases in Rajasthan

Rajasthan on Friday reported 1,422 fresh coronavirus cases which pushed the tally to 3,35,921, while two fatalities took the death toll in the state to 2,824, according to an official report.
 
One death each was reported from Ajmer and Alwar districts, it said.
 
The fresh cases included the highest of 195 in Kota, 188in Jaipur and 175 in Jodhpur, the report issued here said.

Covid-19: Uttar Pradesh reports 2,967 new cases, 16 deaths

Uttar Pradesh reported 16 more Covid-19 fatalities on Friday, pushing the death toll to 8,836, while 2,967 new cases took the tally in the state to 6,22,736, according to a health department bulletin.
 
The number of active cases in the state is 14,073 and 5,99,827 people have so far recovered from the infection, it said.
 
The highest number of fresh cases was reported from state capital Lucknow (940), the bulletin said.

Coronavirus live updates: India has recorded a massive surge of 81,441 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's total caseload to 12,303,131, according to MoHFW. Active cases have crossed the 600,000-mark and now stand at 614,696. India is now the 5th-worst hit country in terms of active cases. The death toll from the deadly infection stands at 163,428.

Maharashtra has reported 43,183 new Covid-19 cases, its highest one-day rise since the pandemic began. Mumbai reported 8,646 new cases, which increased its caseload to 423,419. Meanwhile, Delhi logged 3,583 fresh Covid cases, the highest daily count this year. In the wake of corona surge in the national capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will hold an "urgent" meeting with the health minister and officials today.

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (2,856,163), Kerala (1,124,584), Karnataka (997,004), Andhra Pradesh (901,989), and Tamil Nadu (886,673).

World coronavirus update: Coronavirus cases rise unabated across the globe with 130,150,318 infected by the deadly contagion. While 104,877,298 have recovered, 2,839,508 have died so far. The US remains the worst-hit country with 31,244,639, followed by Brazil, India, France and Russia. However, it terms of the total number of active cases, US tops the charts, followed by France, Brazil, Belgium, India and Italy.
