Over 11.4 mn Covid vaccine doses given so far in India: Health ministry

The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered to healthcare and frontline workers in the country has crossed 1.14 crores, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday, according to PTI.
 

A total of 1,14,24,094 vaccine doses have been administered to 75,40,602 healthcare workers (HCWs) and 38,83,492 frontline workers (FLWs) through 2,44,071 sessions in India, as per the provisional report till 6 pm on Monday, as per PTI.
 

The ministry said 64,25,060 HCWs have taken the first dose of the vaccine and 11,15,542HCWs have taken the second dose. The FLWs have been administered the first dose, PTI reported.

Covid-19: Mumbai cops to fine people without masks Rs 200

Mumbai police is now authorised to penalise people Rs 200 for not wearing masks in public as mandated under COVID-19 norms, an official said on Monday, according to PTI.


"Dear Mumbaikars, Mumbai Police is now authorised to issue challans to offenders not wearing a mask too. Every time we fined you for not wearing a helmet or seatbelt it was alway to remind you the value of your life & safety. Same for masks. Please take care. You matter to us," the metropolis' police said in a tweet. An official said Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had collected Rs 31.79 crore between March last year and February 19 this year from 15.71 lakh people who were caught without face masks in public spaces, as per PTI.

Delhi reports 128 new Covid-19 cases

Delhi reported 128 new COVID-19 cases and 157 recoveries in the last 24 hours, according to ANI. According to the Delhi government health bulletin, the total count of COVID-19 cases in the national capital has reached 6,38,028. A total of 6,26,086 people have recovered from the disease and active cases stand at 1,041. The death toll has gone up to 10,901 in Delhi with one more person succumbing to the disease. India reported 4,199 new COVID-19 cases and 83 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Maharashtra reported 5,210 fresh COVID-19 infections on Monday, after logging over 6,000 cases for three days in a row, even as the Mumbai region, which has seen a bulk of states fatalities, did not report even a single death during the day, the health department said.
 
The state -- which has witnessed an upsurge in COVID- 19 cases since February 10 -- reported 6,112 infections last Friday (February 19). It reported 6,281 and 6,971 new cases on Saturday (Feb 20) and Sunday (Feb 21), respectively. According to an official statement, with 5,210 fresh infections, Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally rose to 21,06,094.

Amit Shah reviews status of Covid-19 vaccine drive

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday reviewed the progress of Covid-19 vaccination drive to check the public health response as the second dose is now being administered to healthcare and frontline workers across the country and preparations are in final stage for rollout of the third phase of the world's biggest inoculation exercise.
 
The meeting came as when India's cumulative vaccination coverage has crossed 1.14 crore recipients. The vaccination drive was started on January 16 for healthcare workers and frontline workers estimated to be around 3 crore.
 
As the third phase of the vaccination drive is to start in March to cover those above 50 years of age and the under-50 population groups with co-morbidities, numbering around 27 crore, Shah chaired the meeting at his Home Ministry office in presence of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan to review the status of Covid-19, along with preparedness of the states and UTs for Covid vaccination.

Nagpur sees 710 coronavirus cases, eight deaths, 437 recoveries

Nagpur's COVID-19 tally rose by 710 on Monday to reach 1,43,843, while the death toll increased by eight to touch 4,283 during the day, an official said.
 
A total of 437 people were discharged, taking the count of such cases to 1,33,298, leaving the district with 6,262 active cases, the official said.
 
With 5,938 samples being examined on Monday, the overall number of tests in Nagpur went up to 11,72,395, he added.

Jammu and Kashmir reports 58 new Covid-19 cases

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 58 new COVID-19 cases on Monday which took the union territory's infection tally to 1,25,925. No fresh death due to the disease was reported.
 
Of the fresh cases, 11 were from the Jammu division and 47 from the Kashmir division, the officials said. Srinagar district recorded the highest number of 17 new cases, followed by 15 in Baramulla district, they added. While 10 districts did not report any fresh cases, eight districts had new cases in single digits.

2,212 coronavirus cases, 16 deaths in Kerala

Kerala on Monday logged 2,212 new COVID-19 cases, including two who returned from the U.K and 16 deaths, taking the total caseload to 10,37,218 and the toll to 4,105. Recoveries at 5,037 outnumbered the new infections.
 
Health Minister, K K Shailaja said 38,103 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate was 5.81 per cent. Till now, the state has tested 1,10,68,239 samples, she said. Two persons who came from the UK tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of UK returnees who tested positive has risen to 88.

Active Covid-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh fall below 600 mark

The number of active Covid-19 cases fell below 600 to 590 in Andhra Pradesh as 41 fresh positives were reported, along with 71 recoveries on Monday. For the third consecutive day, no coronavirus death was reported in the state, a health department bulletin said.
 
The cumulative positives touched 8,89,339 after 1.37 crore tests, at the rate of 6.47 per cent. The total recoveries climbed to 8,81,582 while the toll remained at 7,167, the bulletin said.

Coronavirus live updates: India has recorded a steady rise in the Covid-19 active cases over the past few days. On Sunday, the country registered 14,199 fresh Covid-19 cases. Active cases in India have risen to 150,055, while the caseload tally has crossed the 11-million mark. The country continues to be second-most-affected globally, and ranks 14th among worst-hit nations by active cases. Till February 21, a total of 11,116,854 vaccine doses have been administered through 230,888 sessions. Maharashtra, which recorded 6,900 new cases, has announced a state-wide ban on social, political and religious gatherings, besides imposing fresh local lockdowns or curbs in districts like Pune and Amravati.

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (2,093,913), Kerala (1,034,657), Karnataka (948,149), Andhra Pradesh (889,298), and Tamil Nadu (848,275).

World coronavirus update: Coronavirus cases rise unabated across the globe, with 111,952,175 infected by the deadly contagion. While 87,317,479 have recovered, 2,477,781 have died so far. The US remains the worst-hit country with 28,765,423, followed by India, Brazil, Russia and the United Kingdom. However, it terms of the total number of active cases, US tops the charts, followed by France, UK, Brazil and Belgium.
