Kamath panel identifies 26 stressed sectors, outlines rules for recast

The Reserve Bank of India-appointed (RBI-appointed) expert committee on a resolution framework for bank loans stressed on account of the pandemic has outlined parameters to deal with 26 sectors buffeted by Covid-19.
 
The findings of the committee have been accepted by the RBI, which on Monday issued a circular detailing the financial parameters to be followed by lending institutions. Read more

3,077 fresh Covid-19 cases, 58 deaths reported in Bengal

The Covid-19 death toll in West Bengal rose to 3,620 on Monday after 58 more people succumbed to the disease, while 3,077 fresh cases pushed the coronavirus tally in the state to 1,83,865, the health department said.
 
The discharge rate climbed to 85.40 per cent, with 3,021 people recovering from the disease since Sunday evening, it said in a bulletin.
 
The metropolis accounted for 16 deaths, followed by neighbouring North 24 Parganas (13), Howrah (8), Hooghly (6) and Paschim Medinipur (3).
 
Out of the 58 deaths, 47 were due to the comorbidities where Covid-19 was incidental.
 
North 24 Parganas topped the list of fresh cases with 576 infections, and Kolkata registered 458 cases, the bulletin said.
 
West Bengal now has 23,216 active cases.
 
As many as 42,216 samples have been tested for Covid- 19 since Sunday, it added.

Odisha reports record 3,861 new Covid-19 cases, 10 fresh fatalities

Odisha's Covid-19 tally rose to 1,27,892 on Monday as the state registered its highest single-day spike of 3,861 new cases, while 10 fresh fatalities pushed the coronavirus death toll to 556, a health department official said.
 
As many as 2,278 new cases were detected in quarantine centres, while 1,583 people tested positive for the infection during contact tracing, he said.
 
Khurda district, under which Bhubaneswar falls, registered the highest number of fresh infections at 767, followed by Cuttack (386), Jajpur (285) and Puri (200), the official said.
 
The state had reported its previous highest single-day spike of 3,810 coronavirus cases on September 6.
 
Ganjam district reported three fresh fatalities, while Balasore, Khurda, Cuttack, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nayagarh and Rayagada registered one death each, he said.
Ganjam has so far reported the highest number of Covid-19 fatalities at 207, followed by 76 in Khurda, the official said.
 
As many as 53 coronavirus patients have died due to other ailments in the state so far, he said.
 
At least 3,034 patients were cured of the disease on Monday, taking the number of recoveries to 99,398, which is 77.72 per cent of the state's total caseload.
 
The state's fatality rate now stands at 0.43 per cent, the official.
 
Odisha now has 27,885 active cases, which is 21.80 per cent of total caseload, he said.

Nagaland announces further relaxations in Covid-related restrictions

The Nagaland government on Monday announced a slew of relaxations, including in isolation norms for those coming to the state from other parts of the country and agricultural activities.
 
The decision was taken at a meeting of the High Powered Committee on Covid-19 chaired by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio after thoroughly considering the need to boost economic activities and restart construction works, especially that of the four-lane National Highway-29, minister Neiba Kronu said.
 
With the rainy season coming to an end, we have to open up so that construction works can resume without any hindrance, said Kronu, the government spokesperson on Covid- 19.
 
However, strict safety protocols, including social distancing and hand hygiene measures, have to be followed by everyone so as to prevent further spread of the coronavirus, he added.
 
People coming to the state on official visits and leaving within 48 hours will not be required to undergo quarantine anymore, Kronu said.
 
The relaxations are being announced to encourage economic activities with a focus on agriculture and allied sectors, said the minister for Land Revenue.
 
The state government has also formed a Strategic Economic Committee that will suggest measures for improvement of agricultural productions, he said.
 
A project suggested by the panel has already been sent to the North Eastern Council (NEC) for funding, Kronu said.

Goa's Covid-19 tally cross 21,000 with 344 new cases

The Covid-19 tally in Goa rose to 21,173 on Monday with addition of 344 new cases, a health official said. With nine people succumbing to the infection, the toll went up to 245, he said.
 
A total of 588 people were discharged in the day, taking the total count of recoveries in the state to 16,427.
 
Goa's Covid-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 21,173, new cases 344, deaths 245, discharged 16,427, active cases 4,501, samples tested till date 2,13,469.

Jharkhand reports 1,250 fresh Covid-19 cases, 8 fatalities

Jharkhand reported eight more Covid-19 fatalities, pushing the death toll in the state to 470, even as the tally mounted to 51,067 with 1,250 fresh cases, a health department bulletin said on Monday.
 
The deaths were reported from East Singhbhum (4), Ranchi (3) and Sahibganj (1), it said. Of the new infections, Ranchi district accounted for 349 cases, followed by West Singhbhum (110) and East Singhbhum (102).
 
Jharkhand now has 14,413 active coronavirus cases, while 36,184 people have recovered from the disease so far.
 
The state tested 15,102 samples for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the bulletin added.

2,224 new Covid-19 cases, 23 deaths reported in Haryana; tally at 78,773

Haryana on Monday reported 23 more deaths due to coronavirus as another big spike of 2,224 cases pushed the infection count in the state to 78,773.
 
The state had on Sunday reported the highest single-day Covid-19 toll of 25 deaths, and on Saturday a record 2,289 cases.
 
With the 23 fresh deaths, the total number of fatalities in the state rose to 829, according to the state health department's daily bulletin.

Coronavirus update: India, which is the worst-hit nation after the US, recorded its highest single-day spike of 90,802 coronavirus cases on Monday. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stand at 4,208,645. India has the second-highest number of active cases and ranks 3rd in Covid death toll (71,687). Maharashtra recorded 23,350 new Covid-19 cases, 7,826 recoveries and 328 deaths yesterday. Total number of cases in the state has risen to 9,07,212. Delhi recorded 3,256 fresh coronavirus cases, taking its tally to 191,449.

Five most affected states by total tally of cases are Maharashtra (9,07,212) Andhra Pradesh (498,125), Tamil Nadu (4,63,480), Karnataka (398,551), and Uttar Pradesh (266,283).

World coronavirus update: The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at . While 19,366,783 have recovered, 887,596 have died so far. The US, the worst-hit country, has 6,463,152 cases. It is followed by India which has 4,224,014, Brazil (4,137,606) and Russia (1,025,505).
