Coronavirus live updates: India on Saturday witnessed a slight dip in the number of fresh Covid-19 cases with 326,098 infections. The total caseload stands at 24,372,907, according to MoHFW. Deaths from the virus surged by 3,890 to hit 266,207 in total. World health experts issued a grim warning Friday that the second year of Covid-19 was set to be "far more deadly".

Maharashtra reported 39,923 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases and 695 deaths, followed by Kerala (34,694), Karnataka (41,779), Tamil Nadu (31,892), Andhra Pradesh (22,018), West Bengal (20,839), Uttar Pradesh (15,747) and Delhi (8,506) in the past 24 hours.

The six most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (5,309,215), Karnataka (2,130,267), Kerala (2,085,583), Uttar Pradesh (1,596,727), Tamil Nadu (1,531,377), Andhra Pradesh (1,388,803), and Delhi (1,380,981).

World coronavirus update: Coronavirus cases rise unabated across the globe with 162,518,609 infected by the deadly contagion. While 141,448,573 have recovered, 3,370,742 have died so far. The US remains the worst-hit country with 33,663,187, followed by India, Brazil, France and Turkey. However, in the past seven days, India has added the highest number of fresh cases at 2,560,835 , followed by the Brazil (427,804) and US (256,718).

Hero MotoCorp to set up 100-bed coronavirus centre in Gurugram

Two-wheeler market leader Hero MotoCorp on Saturday said it has partnered with the district administration of Gurugram to set up a makeshift 100-bed Covid Care centre in Gurugram.

 

The company is supporting the setting up of the centre at the Government Girls College in Sector 14, Gurugram under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platform Hero We Care, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement.

 

"The Covid Care centre will help augment our medical infrastructure and enable us to widen the scope of our relief activities for the affected people in the district," Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram Yash Garg said. Read here

Kerala registers 32,680 fresh coronavirus infections, 96 fatalities

Kerala reported 32,680 fresh Covid-19 cases on Saturday, pushing the caseload to 20,88,208, while the toll mounted to 6,339 with 96 more deaths, the state government said.

Cipla says supply of remdesivir catching up with demand

India's Cipla said on Saturday that its manufacturing of the Covid-19 remdesivir drug was beginning to catch up with demand after the company sought to boost production amid a massive second wave of coronavirus infections in the country.
 

Backorders and complaints over low supply started moderating in the second week of May, the drugmaker said, after it began ramping up production of the antiviral drug last month.
 

Hospitals have faced shortages of the drug, which is being widely used and was sold in April for over 10 times its listed price in the black market. Read here
