Assam logs 2,869 new Covid-19 cases, 35 deaths

Assams coronavirus caseload mounted to 4,88,179 on Tuesday as 2,869 people tested positive for the infection while 37 fatalities pushed the death toll to 4,280, the National Health Mission bulletin said.
 
Four fatalities each were registered in Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup Metro and Sonitpur, three in Kamrup Rural and two each in Baksa, Dhubri, Hojai, Nagaon, Sivasagar and Tinsukia.
 
Barpeta, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Nalbari and Udalguri reported one death each.
 
The current death rate is 0.88 percent and the number of Covid-19 positive patients dying due to other causes is 1,347.
 
Currently, the state has 31,628 active cases.
 
Out of the new cases, the highest number of 227 was reported from Golaghat, followed by 198 in Kamrup Metro, 193 in Dibrugarh and 172 in Cachar.
 
The new cases were detected out of 1,52,720 tests conducted on Tuesday with the daily positivity rate at 1.88 per cent while the cumulative tests conducted in the state so far is 1,39,10,205.
 
As many as 2,482 Covid-19 patients were discharged during the day after their recovery.
 
In Assam, 4,50,924 coronavirus patients have so far recovered and the recovery rate is now 92.37 per cent.
 
During the second day of the enhanced vaccination drive launched in the state, a total of 2,41,809 people were vaccinated in 1,980 sites.
 
Altogether 59,74,187 people have been administered the vaccine, of whom 11,02,772 received both doses.

UP sees 59 more Covid deaths, 255 new cases

With 59 new fatalities, the death toll from the pandemic rose to 22,282 in Uttar Pradesh, while the virus count climbed to 17,04,678 on Tuesday as 255 more people tested positive for Covid-19, according to an official statement.
 
Prayagraj registered a maximum of 15 new death linked to the coronavirus, followed by Lucknow which recorded 10 such fatalities, the UP government said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
 
The state capital reported 28 of the fresh cases, followed by 15 in Varanasi and 12 each in Meerut and Lakhimpur Khiri.
 
In the past 24 hours, 397 Covid-19 patients have recovered from the disease, taking the total number of patients discharged so far to 16,78,486.
 
The count of active Covid-19 cases in the state stands at 3,910, the statement said.
 
In the past 24 hours, more than 2.44 lakh samples have been tested in the state, while so far, over 5.57 crore samples have been tested for Covid in the state, it said.

AstraZeneca vaccine linked to rare neurological disorder in India, UK

Eleven people who received the AstraZeneca-Oxford Covid-19 vaccine have developed a rare neurological disorder called Guillain-Barre syndrome, clinicians in India and England have reported in two separate studies.
 
While seven cases were reported from a medical centre in Kerala, where about 1.2 million people were administered the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, known as Covishield in India, four were reported from Nottingham, UK, in an area in which approximately 700,000 (7 lakh) people received the jab.
 
All 11 had received the Covid preventive 10-22 days earlier.
 
In Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), the body's immune system mistakenly attacks part of its peripheral nervous system --the network of nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord. (PTI)

Coronavirus Latest: Mumbai reports 570 fresh cases, 10 deaths

Mumbai reported 570 new coronavirus infections and 10 fatalities on Tuesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
 
With this, the tally of cases rose to 7,22,461 and death toll increased to 15,315, it said.
 
On Monday, the financial capital of the country had recorded 521 new cases and seven deaths.
 
There are 14,453 active Covid-19 cases in the city. (PTI)

Coronavirus LIVE: Goa reports 303 fresh cases in a day

Corona updates: India reported 42,640 new cases in the last 24 hours, lowest single-day spike since March 19. With this, the country's total coronavirus caseload has has reached 29,977,861. The country also reported a sharp dip in new deaths with 1,167 fatalities being reported yesterday. The death toll now stands at 389,302. The Health Ministry said record 8 million doses of Covid vaccines were administered on Day one of implementation of ‘Revised Guidelines for Covid Vaccination’ on Monday.

Kerala reported 7,499 new infections, followed by Maharashtra (6,270), Tamil Nadu (7,427), Andhra Pradesh (2,620), Karnataka (4,867), Delhi (89) and West Bengal (2,184).

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (5,972,781), Karnataka (2,806,453), Kerala (2,809,394), Tamil Nadu (2,422,497), and Andhra Pradesh (1,850,563).

World coronavirus update: Covid-19 is continuing to spread around the world, with more than 179,534,431 confirmed cases and 3,888,355 deaths across nearly 200 countries recorded since China reported its first cases in December 2019. The US remains the worst-hit country with 34,419,838, followed by India, Brazil, France and Turkey.
