Customs officials have arrested a person from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA), Ahmedabad while trying to smuggle gold into the country and seized two kilogrammes of gold from his possession, official sources said.
“Narahari Bhargav Sachin, a resident of Mysore in Karnataka, was intercepted on Sunday upon his arrival by a flight from Singapore. Two gold bars, each weighing a kilogramme, were recovered undeclared from his possession,” said an official.
The tariff value, according to Customs officials, of the seized consignment is Rs 48.83 lakh while the market value of the gold bars is Rs 54.20 lakh. Further investigation was on.
