India on Tuesday reported a net reduction of 4,859 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 113,584. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 0.59 per cent (one in 169). The country is twenty-second among the most affected countries by active cases. On Tuesday, it added 7,579 cases to take its total caseload to 34,526,480 from 34,518,901 — an increase of 0.1%. And, with 236 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 466,147, or 1.35 per cent of total confirmed infections.
With 7,192,154 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on Monday, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 1,176,373,499. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 33,946,749 — or 98.32 per cent of total caseload — with 12,202 new cured cases being reported on Tuesday.
Now the twenty-second-most-affected country by active cases, third by deaths, second by total cases and recoveries, India has added 70,079 cases in the past 7 days.
India now accounts for 0.59% of all active cases globally (one in every 167 active cases), and 9% of all deaths (one in every 11 deaths).
India has so far administered 1,176,373,499 vaccine doses. That is 3407.16 per cent of its total caseload, and 84.09 per cent of its population.
Among Indian states, the top 5 in terms of number of vaccine shots administered are Uttar Pradesh (154936015), Maharashtra (112378063), West Bengal (92222657), Madhya Pradesh (83452636), and Gujarat (81059923).
Among states with more than 10 million population, the top 5 in number of vaccine shots per one million population are Gujarat (1269092), Kerala (1248747), Jammu and Kashmir (1242268), Delhi (1228545), and Uttarakhand (1136241).

The count of active cases across India on Monday saw a net reduction of 4,271, compared with 2,154 on Sunday. States and UTs hat have seen the biggest daily net increase in active cases are Meghalaya (16), Rajasthan (12), Chhattisgarh (9), Lakshadweep (9), and Madhya Pradesh (6).
With 12,202 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.32%, while fatality rate remained unchanged at 1.35%.
The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (2.75%), Nagaland (2.17%), and Uttarakhand (2.15%). The rate in as many as 12 is higher than the national average.
India’s new daily closed cases stand at 12,438— 236 deaths and 12,202 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.89%.
India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.1%.
India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 3157.3 days, and for deaths at 1368.8 days.
Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Kerala (3698), Tamil Nadu (750), Maharashtra (656), West Bengal (615), and Mizoram (423).
India on Monday conducted 964,980 coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 63,34,89,239. The test positivity rate recorded was 0.8%.
Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases – are Dadra & Nagar Haveli-Daman & Diu (14.75%), Kerala (13.01%), Sikkim (11.82%), Goa (11.7%), and Maharashtra (10.23%).
Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Mizoram (13.5%), Kerala (6.86%), Nagaland (3.97%), Himachal Pradesh (3.4%), and Arunachal Pradesh (2.33%).
Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (1630258), J&K (1264319), Kerala (1099180), Karnataka (780964), and Telangana (719229).
The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (6630531), Kerala (5104702), Karnataka (2993777), Tamil Nadu (2721021), and Andhra Pradesh (2071371).
Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 656 new cases to take its tally to 6630531.
Kerala, the second-most-affected state by total tally, has added 3698 cases to take its tally to 5104702.
Karnataka, the third-most-affected state, has reported 178 cases to take its tally to 2993777.
Tamil Nadu has added 750 cases to take its tally to 2721021.
Andhra Pradesh has seen its tally going up by 127 to 2071371.
Uttar Pradesh has added 12 cases to take its tally to 1710344.
Delhi has added 26 cases to take its tally to 1440692.
